The Toronto Blue Jays were officially eliminated from the postseason conversation on Wednesday after losing to the Baltimore Orioles 4-2 in the first contest of a doubleheader. After reaching the World Series a season ago, the Blue Jays will not even be in the playoffs this year. Vladimir Guerrero Jr., who signed a $500 million contract extension in 2025, commented on missing the postseason, via Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.
“I’m taking big responsibility on this year. I knew I've got to get better,” Guerrero said. “I've got to obviously put up better numbers to help the team win. But it is what it is. Just go to the off-season and keep working hard, prepare myself again and be ready for next year.”
Performing after signing a massive deal isn't a simple task. Immediate pressure is placed on players after they sign large contracts. Fans expect guys who are making $500 million to lead the way. Guerrero got brutally honest while commenting on the pressure and expectations he's faced since signing the lucrative deal, via Davidi as well.
Article Continues Below“Every at-bat that I fail I think about my contract because I know all these people that go to the games, they pay to see me being successful, to do something good every at-bat,” Guerrero said. “Every time I think about that, about my contract.”
The Blue Jays still have a bright future. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. will look to lead Toronto back to the postseason in 2027. For now, all the team can do is focus on finishing this season strong.
