The Chicago Bears started the season in dominating fashion. They trounced the Carolina Panthers 59-37 in their season opener.

All the while, Caleb Williams will be the face in terms of living up to expectations of an MVP season.

Meanwhile, general manager Ryan Poles is sharing advice he received from Patrick Mahomes about Williams, per Kevin Fishbain of The Athletic. It was during a joint preseason practice with the Chiefs, when Mahomes told Poles that Williams needs to make the “easy play.”

In other words, letting the game happen and focusing on short completions as opposed to improvising all the time.

Poles found that “boring”.

“It’s now can you cause death by (1,000) paper cuts and checkdowns, quick game and stay on the sticks and stay on schedule?” Poles told The Athletic.“I think that in itself is going to put teams in a really big bind because at some point you’re going to have to react to that and adjust. And then that’s going to open up things, and Ben (Johnson) is going to be ready for it and then you counter that.”

Poles has the utmost trust in head coach Ben Johnson to incorporate the “easy play” into the offense.

“Can you get to boring and live there for a little bit and let the game come to you, where you can then go be special? And that’s cool,” Poles said. “Ben’s going to build that special part into the offense, so he can trust that. We all can. That just takes maturity and time.”

Against Carolina, Williams completed 21 out of 29 passes for 269 yards and two touchdowns. The Bears will face the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday.
