Houston Astros outfielder Joey Loperfido received an injury update after undergoing hip surgery. Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle shared the update from the Astros.

“Joey Loperfido had arthroscopic surgery on his right hip to ‘address a labral injury and hip impingement that were identified shortly after the season ended,' per the Astros. He’ll be behind in spring training,” Loperfido reported.

It remains to be seen how far behind Loperfido will be in 2027 spring training. Of course, the possibility of a lockout could impact when spring training begins anyway. If it is delayed, Loperfido may not end up missing any time. If the potential lockout does not ultimately impact 2027 spring training and it begins on schedule, Loperfido's availability will likely be impacted.

Loperfido's numbers do not jump off the page. He hit just .214/.311/.330 this past season. The 27-year-old provides the Astros with crucial outfield depth, however. He makes an impact overall despite his lackluster offensive numbers.

The Astros are hoping to bounce back next year. They reached the postseason in 2026. However, they played in one of baseball's worst divisions in the American League West. They snuck into the playoffs with only 81 victories. Houston wants to develop more consistency next year.

Making roster upgrades will be among their offseason goals, but they need to find a general manager who can make that happen. The Astros are currently interviewing candidates for the role. Joe Espada also won't be returning as manager, so Houston will need to find a replacement for him as well.
