Zach Neto has already been floated as a potential trade chip for the Los Angeles Angels this offseason, and now another young infielder is being mentioned alongside him. With the franchise at a crossroads, first baseman Nolan Schanuel could also be on the move if the club decides to rebuild.

MLB.com’s Rhett Bollinger noted that both players are firmly entrenched in the Angels’ infield, but their futures could depend on which direction the team takes.

“The Angels have Zach Neto entrenched at shortstop and Nolan Schanuel at first base, but either could be a trade candidate if they decide to rebuild,” Bollinger wrote.

The Angels are coming off a brutal 2026 season in which they lost 100 games. On top of that, the organization is in the middle of a major transition. Arte Moreno agreed to sell the team to Kroenke Sports & Entertainment for a reported $4 billion, and the Angels are not expected to hire a new general manager or manager until the sale is approved.

Interim GM John Mozeliak is set to depart when his contract expires in December.

Neto has been at the center of trade speculation for months. The Boston Red Sox reportedly had strong interest in the 25-year-old shortstop ahead of the trade deadline, and MLB Network’s Jon Morosi recently suggested the Angels should explore the market.

“This is the time to gauge interest in Zach Neto and Reid Detmers,” Morosi said on MLB Network’s “Hot Stove.” “It’s not about winning a World Series in 2027.”

It is easy to see why teams would be interested. Neto slugged 27 home runs and drove in 77 runs in 157 games in 2026, and he has three years of team control remaining.

Schanuel, meanwhile, is 24 years old and coming off a solid campaign in which he hit .276 with seven home runs, 49 RBIs and a .736 OPS in 107 games. The former first-round pick has been a steady presence at first base since debuting just weeks after being drafted in 2023.

For now, any major moves will likely have to wait until the ownership change is finalized. But if the new regime chooses to tear things down, Neto and Schanuel could be two of the most intriguing names on the trade market.
