Without star quarterback Julian Sayin, Ohio State football's struggles continued as the Buckeyes fell 41-28 to Oregon in their Week 10 college football matchup on Saturday. The disappointing loss sparked significant frustration among Ohio State fans, with some even launching a petition demanding the dismissal of head coach Ryan Day.
Though Oregon head coach Dan Lanning showed support for Day following his team's victory, that gesture did little to change the minds of frustrated Buckeyes supporters. Barstool Sports owner Dave Portnoy also brought attention to a fan-created petition calling for Day's firing and Portnoy's reinstatement.
“Holy shit, look at this petition an Ohio State fan started! I'm never wrong…just early,” Portnoy wrote.
The frustration was not limited to the fanbase, as wide receiver Jeremiah Smith also appeared visibly unhappy with the team's performance and made little effort to hide his disappointment during the game.
The defeat was particularly frustrating considering how strongly Ohio State started the contest. The Buckeyes built a 14-0 advantage late in the opening quarter, putting Oregon in an early two-touchdown hole.
However, the Ducks gradually discovered their rhythm on both sides of the ball before completely taking over the matchup. Oregon went on to score 38 unanswered points. The last time an opponent scored 38 consecutive points against Ohio State was Wisconsin in 1999.

Quarterback Luke Fahey completed 36 of his 50 passing attempts for 360 yards, two touchdowns and an interception. Meanwhile, Smith recorded seven receptions for 133 yards and a touchdown, yet his individual production was not enough to prevent the Buckeyes from suffering another loss.
The loss represents a major setback for Ohio State's College Football Playoff aspirations. The Buckeyes entered the season with national championship expectations, but consecutive defeats have raised serious questions about their ability to compete at the highest level.
Following the latest setback, Ohio State now sits at 6-3 this season and has dropped six of its last 11 games.
