On Sunday, PFT reported that Chiefs left tackle Josh Simmons is considered week-to-week with his back injury. Simmons has not been on the field for the seasonâÂÂs first two weeks, with undrafted rookie Kahlil Benson starting at the position instead.
Asked about Simmons in his Monday video conference, head coach Andy Reid said the second-year left tackle is âÂÂdoing everythingâ in the building as he works his way back to the field.
âÂÂHeâÂÂs working his tail off, itâÂÂs just â we knew it would be a couple, two, three, four games in here as long as he was making progress,â Reid said. âÂÂSo, weâÂÂll just see where heâÂÂs at.
âÂÂHeâÂÂs kind of in that flex area to see exactly how that thing, if itâÂÂs calmed down, and some of the swelling has gone down. But weâÂÂll see.âÂÂ
Also on the injury front, rookie cornerback Mansoor Delane was active for SundayâÂÂs win over the Colts after injuring his shoulder during the Week 1 victory over the Broncos. But Delane did not end up taking a snap.
Reid noted Delane was effectively available only for an emergency situation.
âÂÂ[DelaneâÂÂs shoulder] wasnâÂÂt coming around as fast as we wanted,â Reid said. âÂÂHe was right on the border there of, alright, you can get in and play and play a full game. And/or, if we can, get it to calm down a little bit more and maybe heâÂÂs better this week. So, it was a tweener position to be in.
âÂÂBut he wanted to suit up and, if needed, he couldâÂÂve gone in. But we were trying to keep him from having to play a full game in there, for sure.âÂÂ
The Chiefs will be on the road to face the Dolphins in Week 3.
