Alpine have made a major addition to their leadership team, adding Mike Elliott as their new Chief Technical Officer.

Elliott brings more than two decades of Formula 1 experience to the position, last coming with Mercedes. He began his F1 journey with McLaren back in 2000, joining the team as an aerodynamicist. He then moved to Renault in 2008, before joining the Silver Arrows for the 2012 season.

Elliott served as the team’s Head of Aerodynamics for a period, before moving into the Technology Director role from 2017 to 2021. He became the team’s Technical Director in 2021, before becoming Chief Technical Officer for six months in 2023, before announcing he was leaving the team.

In a statement from Alpine, the team indicated that Elliott will “lead and oversee the technical and engineering functions at the team’s factory in Enstone.” Alpine also noted that Elliott has “a proven track record in the sport, having contributed to an impressive eight Constructors’ and eight Drivers’ Championships.”

Alpine believes his arrival “strengthens the team’s technical capabilities as the team looks to build on the improved performances on track and close the gap to the top four teams.”

After a difficult 2025 campaign, Alpine has closed the gap to the teams at the front this season. Following last weekend’s Spanish Grand Prix, the team currently sits sixth in the Constructors’ Championship standings with 68 points, nine points behind fifth-place Visa Cash App Racing Bulls. Highlights this season include a third-place finish on the track from Pierre Gasly at the Monaco Grand Prix — although that was taken away after a post-race penalty that was the subject of weeks of appeals — and a sixth-place finish from Franco Colapinto at the Canadian Grand Prix.

Gasly also took a stunning pole for the Italian Grand Prix a few weeks ago.
