Alabama Crimson Tide offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb began the 2026 season with a comfortable 48-10 home victory over East Carolina. However, he expressed frustration after the game about the team's sluggish performance in the second half, where the offense stalled.

Early issues with execution drew initial criticism from the coaching staff, but Grubb did not hold back when addressing the negativity coming from the stands. He made a blunt statement, reported by Matt Stahl on X, regarding fans who booed during an earlier matchup against Florida State. Grubb said, “I told the guys, I said, ‘Shoot guys, if you’d have quit as fast as some of your fans, shit, we wouldn’t have won that game.’”

This intensity also extends to how the coaching staff manages star players, such as sophomore quarterback Keelon Russell, who had a strong debut with 256 passing yards and 86 rushing yards. However, during a media session on Monday, as reported by Michael Casagrande and Charlie Potter, Grubb warned about Russell's tendency to run into heavy contact. He noted that they are actively teaching him how to slide because running recklessly every week would lead to a long and challenging season.

As Alabama aims to improve its second-half performance and protect its young quarterback, Grubb's demanding standards will keep the Crimson Tide focused moving forward.
