The biggest game of the week in college football is between two top-ten teams in the SEC, as Alabama hosts Georgia. Now, a potential hurricane could impact the Alabama-Georgia game on Saturday.
Currently, the system is a tropical storm in the Gulf of Mexico. Isaias is expected to become a hurricane in the coming days and is being monitored, according to Andy Staples of On3.
“The Georgia-Alabama game is set for a 7:30 p.m. ET kickoff at Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa, but officials at Alabama, Georgia and the SEC office are monitoring the storm in case the game time or location needs to be adjusted,” Staples wrote.
Because of the changing track of the storm, which has currently shifted east from coastal Mississippi to coastal Alabama, there will not be an update on potential game changes until Thursday at the earliest.
The preference would be to play the game as scheduled at the time and location initially scheduled. That may not be possible. That leaves two potential options for the game to be played. The first option is to play the game as scheduled but in Tuscaloosa. That would require the storm to speed up and make landfall on Friday or for the storm to shift more and make landfall in the Florida Panhandle.
Another option is to move the game to Sunday and still play in Tuscaloosa. This has happened in the past, as games were moved in 2016 due to Hurricane Matthew. Still, this would not be ideal for the teams.

This situation would also create a short week for both teams. With Alabama set for a top-25 matchup against Tennessee the next week, they do not want a short week in preparation.
