The Oklahoma City Thunder desperately needed players on the roster to step up following the injuries to Jalen Williams, Cason Wallace, and Chet Holmgren. Thankfully, AJ Mitchell has come to the rescue.

The third year guard out of the University of Santa Barbara had a strong second season with the Thunder in the 2025-26 season, but has taken his game to the next level with his increased opportunity in his third season.

During Friday night's contest between the Thunder and the Memphis Grizzlies atop the Western Conference, Mitchell popped off for a career-high 35 points in just over 30 minutes of play, adding in five assists while shooting 14-of-20 from the field and 4-of-7 from three.

The Thunder defeated the Grizzlies, 128-97, in Memphis, as Shai Gilgeous-Alexander poured in 28 points with three rebounds and four assists while Jared McCain added 21 points, five rebounds, and four steals.

It's the fifth time in six games since becoming a full-time starter that Mitchell has recorded at least 20 points and the third time he's scored at least 29 points.
