Two teams are currently in the Top 10 of the College Football Playoffs as Georgia visits Ole Miss on Saturday night. It is time to continue the NCAA Football odds series with a Georgia-Ole Miss prediction and pick.
Georgia comes into the game at 7-1 on the season. They opened up 6-0, including winning on the road against Alabama. Still, the letdown came the next week. They hosted Auburn the next week, and while Georgia took a 14-0 lead in the first quarter, Auburn rallied. They led 17-14 at the end of the first half, and 24-14 at the end of the third quarter. Georgia made a comeback. After a Peyton Woodring field goal, Gunner Stockton led Georgia on another drive, capping it with a game-tying touchdown pass. Still, there was enough time on the clock for Auburn to his the game-winning field goal and send Georgia to a 27-24 loss. Georgia returned to winning last week, taking out Florida 27-8.
Meanwhile, Ole Miss is 6-2 on the year. They opened up 3-0, including a massive win over Lane Kiffin and LSU. Like many teams this year, including their opponent Georgia, they came off an emotional win and promptly lost. For Ole Miss, it was a 52-28 loss on the road to Florida. Ole Miss would rebound to beat Vanderbilt and Missouri before visiting Texas. Texas dominated early, building a 24-3 lead at the end of the first half. Ole Miss would tie the game at 24 in the fourth quarter, but Texas would pull ahead again, winning the game 34-27. Last time out, Ole Miss got back in the win column with a 45-15 win.
This will be the 51st meeting between the two schools. Georgia has 24 wins, with Ole Miss having 15, and there has been one tie. The two teams met twice last season: Georgia won in Athens in the regular season, but Ole Miss won in the College Football Playoff Quarterfinal at the Sugar Bowl. The road team in this series has not won since 2011, when Georgia beat Ole Miss 27-13.

Keys to Georgia vs. Ole Miss matchup
Article Continues BelowFor Georgia, they need to start strong on the road. Georgia is ninth in the nation in first-quarter points this year, averaging 9.4 points per first quarter. Overall, they have outscored opponents 94-14 this year in the first quarter. For Georgia to start strong again, it starts with the running game, which will open up the play-action pass. Dwight Phillips Jr. leads the way, running for 415 yards with two scores. Meanwhile, Nate Frazier has run for 297 yards and six scores. This duo, combined with Bo Walker and Chauncey Bowens, will open up the play action quickly. Then Gunner Stockton can hit the deeper passes to open a quick lead.
On defense, Georgia has to fluster Trinidad Chambliss. With Kewan Lacy out of the lineup, the running game has not been the same for Ole Miss. Georgia is 14th in the nation in sack rate this season. Georgia has four players with three or more sacks so far this year. Raylen Wilson leads the way with four sacks, while also forcing two fumbles. If Georgia can get to Chambliss and force a turnover or two, they will win this game.
For Ole Miss, they have to take some pressure off of Chambliss. In the loss to Texas, he threw three interceptions, which came after Kewan Lacy was injured. He then threw another one against Auburn. Overall, he has eight interceptions this year, as he is trying to do too much to help the team. Makhi Frazeir has to step up. He has run for 357 yards this year and has yet to score. He has shown he can have big games, and if he can do it against a solid Georgia run defense, Ole Miss will be in great shape.
On defense, Ole Miss has to get off the field on third downs. This starts with creating negative plays on first and second downs. Ole Miss is 100th in the nation in opponent third-down conversions, but part of that is they are 67th against the run. Georgia has been great on this down this year, sitting tenth in the nation. If Georgia keeps that up, they will keep Chambliss off the field and control the game.
Georgia vs. Ole Miss Prediction and Pick
Georgia is averaging 41 points per game, and much of that is due to the work of the backfield. They not only have Phillips and Frazier, but also a stable of four running backs that can dominate on the ground. The last time Georgia had this type of depth in the backfield, Todd Gurley was leading the way, with freshmen Nick Chubb and Sony Michel helping out. Meanwhile, Ole Miss is 88th in EPA per rush on defense. Further, Ole Miss will rely on Chambliss heavily. If Georgia can look back to their performance against Florida, the feast-or-famine offense of Ole Miss will struggle.
While the two teams are both great, and both have reasons to expect to win, this game could come down to one factor. That is coaching. While Pete Golding is proving to be a solid head coach, he is not Kirby Smart. Smart is 124-22 as a head coach. He has also been to the playoffs five straight seasons and won two national titles. Smart is the difference in this one.
