It is too early to say whether the New Jersey Devils' decision to acquire goaltender Connor Hellebuyck will be a success, but the early returns on the deal represent a win for both the team and the goaltender.

Hellebuyck was in net Thursday night for New Jersey's 5-4 victory over the St. Louis Blues in overtime. Hellebuyck has improved his has a 4-0 record in his first four games in a New Jersey uniform and he has allowed 10 goals. He has a 2.44 goals against average with an .891 save percentage.

Hellebuyck is the second goaltender in New Jersey franchise history to start his career with the team by winning his first four games with the team. The former Winnipeg Jets goaltender has joined John Vanbiesbrouck, who started his career in the Garden State by winning four straight games in the 2000-01 season.

The Devils have won their last six home games, and they have had only one home winning streak longer than that in the last 15 years.

The Devils have high aspirations for the 2026-27 season and believe they can compete for the Stanley Cup this season. The acquisition of Hellebuyck gives them a goaltender who has won the Vezina Trophy as the NHL's top goaltender three times and he also won the Hart Trophy as the league's Most Valuable Player in the 2024-25 season.
