Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Penix Jr. remains hopeful about playing next week, but he must undergo an MRI to determine the severity of his rib injury.

ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter reported Monday that Penix is expected to have an MRI on his ribs to determine whether the injury will force him to miss any time. The quarterback suffered the injury during Atlanta's 30-23 overtime loss to the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday night.

However, Schefter earlier reported on the injury and Penix's initial thoughts on the return timeline. Despite the uncertainty, Penix expressed confidence in his chances of returning for the Falcons' next game.
