The Philadelphia 76ers opened their preseason account on Monday with a demolition of the reigning champion New York Knicks at home, 120-97. While it's difficult to make any sweeping conclusions from an exhibition game, especially when both teams' established players didn't play too many minutes, the early signs are promising for Jaylen Brown in a 76ers uniform.
Of the 76ers' big five, only Brown and VJ Edgecombe suited up during their preseason debut. Brown, as he does, relished the opportunity to be the first option and made the most of it. He scored 22 points on 8-13 shooting from the field in just 17 minutes of play. Edgecombe, for his part, added 12 points on 4-9 shooting from the field.
But perhaps the most important development that's taking place for the 76ers is that a bromance between Brown and Edgecombe appears to be brewing. Both players had nothing but love for each other after their win over the Knicks, as they sang each other's praises in their respective post-game interviews.
“Everyone know what JB can do. It's building, man. He look great,” Edgecombe said of Brown, via the official 76ers account on X.

Meanwhile, Brown didn't just compliment Edgecombe's game; he also gushed over the kind of person the 76ers sophomore is off the court.

This 76ers team is welcoming a lot of new faces and they are going to be integrating quite a few pieces. It will be interesting to see how Philly divvies up the touches among their core players, especially with LeBron James coming in and suiting up alongside other players who need the ball in Tyrese Maxey and Joel Embiid.
But it's easier to jell on the court when there is friendship off it, and the all the signs are pointing to the 76ers eventually figuring it out.
