The San Francisco 49ers are currently gearing up for Monday night's home game against the Washington Commanders in prime time. The 49ers come into this game as one of the NFL's last unbeaten teams, currently sitting at 5-0 on the 2026 season.
Some fans have clamored for the team to double down on this group by swinging a trade for Los Angeles Chargers star pass rusher Khalil Mack to help bolster their title aspirations.
Recently, Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area reported on X, formerly Twitter, that “49ers GM John Lynch said George Kittle asked him Thursday about the possibility of acquiring veteran edge Khalil Mack, who has three sacks for the 0-5 Chargers.”
He then polled his followers on the social media platform, asking if they had “Any guess on which player George Kittle might next ask 49ers GM John Lynch about acquiring at the NFL trading deadline?”
Matt Barrows of The Athletic then chimed in, jokingly wondering if the answer could be injured Los Angeles Rams star pass rusher Myles Garrett.
Garrett was acquired by the Rams this past offseason from the Cleveland Browns after setting the NFL sack record last year, but has missed the last few weeks for Los Angeles, which has been the biggest disappointment of the young season.
Article Continues BelowWhile Garrett is highly unlikely to be moved by Los Angeles, it's certainly more realistic that Lynch could swing a trade for Mack, whose Chargers have freefallen to an 0-6 record to start the 2026 season.
In the meantime, the 49ers will focus on keeping their record unblemished on Monday evening at home against the Commanders.
