San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy has no hard feelings toward Brandon Aiyuk despite their lengthy separation. With the receiver seeking reinstatement ahead of the NFL trade deadline, Purdy said any potential reunion on Friday would be met with nothing but love.
Aiyuk is expected to report to San Francisco's facility after filing paperwork to return from the reserve/left squad list. However, his future with the organization remains uncertain following a prolonged absence.
Asked whether he had considered what he might say to Aiyuk, Purdy admitted he hadn't given the possibility much thought.
“Nah, I haven't,” Purdy said in comments shared by OurSF49ers.
“Like I've said before, I love what we did together when we played together and everything, and obviously haven't spoken to him in a long time or anything.”
Purdy acknowledged that he doesn't fully understand Aiyuk's circumstances, emphasizing that the situation remains beyond his control.
“Not really sure what the whole situation is and stuff, that's out of my control, but if I saw him, it would be nothing but love from me.”
The two previously developed a productive connection during San Francisco's playoff runs. Aiyuk recorded a career-high 1,342 receiving yards in 2023, helping the 49ers reach Super Bowl 58.
Meanwhile, coach Kyle Shanahan previously indicated he had mentally moved on from Aiyuk, although general manager John Lynch has not completely ruled out a reunion.
For Purdy, the situation remains personal rather than contractual. Whatever San Francisco ultimately decides, the quarterback made it clear that his respect for his former teammate hasn't disappeared.
