Andrew Painter’s teammates will appreciate admission after gutting through migraine in relief
The Philadelphia Phillies lost the final game of their series against the Arizona Diamondbacks, but there may have been something bigger to come out of the matchup. Before the game, Andrew Painter was dealing with a migraine, and he was scratched from starting.
Though he didn’t make the start, he still ended up pitching, and he explained why it was important for him to do so.
“It was super important. I didn’t know the extent of how long I was going to go out or how I was going to feel out there. I wanted to go out there and at least get a couple of innings in to take that off the relievers,” Painter said.
Andrew Painter says it was “super important” for him to pitch Sunday to avoid someone in the bullpen having to get sent down or DFA’d for a fresh arm Monday.

That is the sign of a good teammate, and it shows that Painter is thinking ahead when he’s on the field. Even though they still lost the game, that move can go a long way into the next game or the rest of the week.
Before the season even started, the team was already raving about Painter and his demeanor when he steps on the field.
“I think he’s pretty calm,” manager Rob Thompson said via Devan Kaney. “I was just talking to [Garrett Stubbs] because Stubby was with him all year, how [Painter] was not affected by poor performance, and he was able to bounce back. He’s got a short memory, and this is a guy that’s never had failure. So, in a way, having failure [in the minor leagues] can be good for him.”
Painter is already showing his worth with the Phillies, and it’s good to see that early in the season.
