Alex Scott next club odds: Arsenal and Man Utd joint faves for Cherries star

Arsenal and Manchester United are currently joint favourites to sign in demand Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott this summer.

Scott was a near ever present in the Bournemouth team last season, playing a part in 37 of their 38 Premier League matches, as they achieved their highest ever league finish.

The Cherries’ sixth place final standing from their best ever tally of 57 top flight points has also seen them qualify for European football for the first time in their history.

Scott has had three full seasons playing for the south coast side since his £25m move from Championship side Bristol City, though his first two campaigns were affected by injuries, meaning he hadn’t had a consistent run in the team since last season.

The midfielder, who will have just turned 23 by the time new Premier League season gets underway, played every minute of Dorset side’s 18 match unbeaten run, which saw them climb from 15th into the top six, bar the final game of the campaign he missed with a niggle.

The Guernsey-born star gained several plaudits throughout the campaign, even earning his first England call up for the March international break and flew out to Florida for Thomas Tuchel’s World Cup warm up camp in June.

Several of the Premier League’s heavy hitters are now seeking his signing, particularly with the 22-year-old having rejected a new contract offer from Bournemouth, with the likes of Arsenal and Manchester United deemed to be the most interested.

The Gunners are in the market for another central midfielder this summer, having already been rumoured to be interested in the likes of Bruno Guimaraes and Sandro Tonali, to play alongside Declan Rice.

The reigning Premier League champions are a tad light in the central midfield department, with Martin Zubimendi starting the campaign well but fizzling out slightly towards the end of the season.

Fellow midfielders Mikel Merino often gets used further up the pitch for the north London side these days and Christian Norgaard only played 101 minutes of league football last season, leaving usual left back Myles Lewis-Skelly to fill in in the centre of the park.

Scott is seen as a youthful but high quality option to fill a hole that could leave Mikel Arteta’s side looking even more imperious for the new season.

Manchester United are also in the market for a new central midfielder following the departure of Casemiro, though have already added Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos to their ranks this summer so Scott’s signing might be slightly less of a priority.

Manuel Ugarte is rumoured to be out of favour with Michael Carrick though, and the Red Devils are in the need to improve the depth of their squad having qualified for the Champions League this season after missing out on Europe entirely in the last campaign.

Newcastle are in need of midfield reinforcements having already sold the likes of Tonali to Tottenham, with Guimaraes also being heavily linked with an exit.

The Magpies are priced as third favourites at 4/1 to make a move for the Bournemouth midfielder, just ahead of the likes of Chelsea at 5/1, Liverpool at 6/1, with Manchester City and the team he supported as a youngster, Tottenham, both at 10/1.
