Alex Pereira’s sister defeats rival in action-packed Ronda Rousey vs Gina Carano undercard fight

Aline Pereira claimed the third victory of her professional MMA career on the Ronda Rousey vs Gina Carano undercard Saturday night.

The 35-year-old, who had her UFC superstar brother Alex Pereira in her corner, defeated Canadian Jade Masson-Wong by split decision after three thrilling rounds.

The fight came during the prelims of Netflix’s first-ever MMA show, promoted by Jake Paul and Nakisa Bidarian’s Most Valuable Promotions (MVP).

Pereira struggled in round one when Masson-Wong sent her to the canvas with an early takedown.

But the Brazilian managed to establish her kickboxing range as time went on to secure a points win.

Two judges scored the contest 29-28 in Pereira’s favour, while a third, bizarrely, ruled it 30-27 to Masson-Wong.

How it went down

Masson-Wong had the early advantage, having floored Pereira by catching one of her kicks at the Intuit Dome in Inglewood, California.

Despite being controlled in Pereira’s guard, former bare-knuckle boxer Masson-Wong was able to land some nasty elbows on the ground.

Pereira, five inches taller than her opponent, eventually made it to her feet and finished the nip-and-tuck round well with a strong right hand.

In the second, Pereira pushed the pace, mixing it up to the body and head after a word from her older two-division UFC champion brother.

The Brazilian unleashed many stabbing kicks up the middle, and Masson-Wong was clearly tiring.

Masson-Wong responded well, though, catching Pereira with a solid right hand, but the latter finished on top after a slick counter left before the bell.

Pereira was on the hunt in the final round, cutting angles, trying to trap Masson-Wong, who was looking to force the takedown.

Masson-Wong found some momentum, however, landing consecutive punishing blows at the midway point of round three.

But it was Pereira who continued to punish her opponent and claim a split decision win.

She embraced 38-year-old brother Alex after getting her hand raised.

Alex had taken time out of his training camp for a fight at the UFC’s White House show on June 14 to be by his sister’s side.

He fights Ciryl Gane for the interim heavyweight title in the co-main event on the South Lawn of the White House next month.

Also on the prelims of MVP’s Netflix MMA card, Brandon Jenkins and David Mgoyan both claimed points wins over Chris Avila and Albert Morales, respectively.

Meanwhile, Jason Jackson scored his 21st win as a pro with a massive KO of Jeff Creighton.
