Albert Pujols gets 100% real on Cardinals upsetting expectations in 2026

The St. Louis Cardinals have upset expectations amid their rebuild this season. Former Cardinals superstar Albert Pujols has been paying attention to his former ball club’s performance. Pujols recently commented on the Cardinals’ play this season, via Tamar Sher.

“When the Cardinals have a good team, it’s different. It’s a different energy coming into the stadium,” Pujols said. “That’s the energy that I felt on Sunday. I know I wasn’t wearing the uniform, I was in the booth doing the game, but that’s the energy that I felt because remember, I wore this uniform for 12 years so I know. It’s really good to see the fans coming back supporting, and it’s good to see the Cardinals playing the game.

“Obviously it’s a division that’s going to come down between them, the Brewers, Chicago, Cincinnati, Pittsburgh… I know a lot of people say, ‘Well, they’re not playing in a strong division.’ Like, who cares… There are 30 ball clubs and they’re all great. I believe, hopefully at the end of September, the Cardinals are going to make a run and be in the playoffs.”

The National League Central is a winnable division. Although every team is above .500, the only team that is playing especially well is the first place Milwaukee Brewers, who are 37-23. At 32-28, St. Louis is in third place in the division.

The Cardinals have had ups and downs, but they look like a ball club that could potentially make a competitive run. Albert Pujols clearly has confidence in the team.
