Alabama football news: Crimson Tide beat Ohio State, Texas Tech for 4-star OT
Alabama football added to its 2028 recruiting class Monday, securing a commitment from four-star offensive lineman Anthony Blalock Jr. The Ohio standout announced his decision after choosing the Crimson Tide over a lengthy list of Power Four programs that included Ohio State, Texas Tech, Penn State, Kentucky and North Carolina.
Blalock, who plays at Austintown Fitch High School in Youngstown, Ohio, received his Alabama offer in June after impressing offensive line coach Adrian Klemm during the Crimson Tide’s summer camp on June 17. He later returned to Tuscaloosa for a visit alongside his agency, a trip that helped strengthen Alabama’s position in his recruitment.
The 6-foot-6, 315-pound lineman becomes the Crimson Tide’s first offensive line pledge in the 2028 class. Recruiting services list him among the nation’s top prospects, with the 247Sports Composite ranking him as the No. 12 interior offensive lineman and No. 204 overall player nationally. He is also considered one of Ohio’s top prospects, earning rankings as high as No. 6 in the state. Other evaluations place him even higher, including No. 125 nationally, No. 8 at his position and No. 4 in Ohio.
Blalock held more than 20 Division I scholarship offers, with his total reaching at least 24 by late June. His offer sheet featured schools such as Indiana, UCLA, Missouri, Louisville, Maryland, Minnesota and Georgia in addition to several Big Ten and SEC programs.
Blalock’s commitment gives Alabama six pledges in the 2028 recruiting cycle and marks the program’s third commitment this month. The Crimson Tide also landed four-star quarterback Kingston Preyear last week, making Blalock the second four-star addition in recent days.
Alabama’s current 2028 class consists of quarterbacks Kingston Preyear and Charles Scott Jr., offensive lineman Anthony Blalock Jr., linebackers Dustin Henry and Ryquan Butler, and cornerback Braylen Gibbs.
The latest addition keeps the Crimson Tide at the top of the national 2028 team recruiting rankings according to 247Sports, with Alabama holding the No. 1 class in the country ahead of programs including Ohio State and Georgia.
