Aaron Rodgers’ new Steelers OC fires back at alleged 4-QB problem
The Pittsburgh Steelers cannot escape questions about their quarterback situation. Pittsburgh re-signed veteran Aaron Rodgers on a one-year deal, giving them a quality starter for the 2026 season. But whispers about the team having too many quarterbacks has seemingly caught the ire of the team’s offensive coordinator.
Steelers offensive coordinator Brian Angelichio shot down the idea that Pittsburgh has too many quarterbacks.
“You can never have enough quarterbacks. With the system that’s in place here, it’s great that we have four quarterbacks,” Angelichio said on Tuesday per Steelers reporter ray Fittipaldo. “We have a plan on how all those guys are going to get reps.”
The Steelers added Angelichio to Mike McCarthy’s coaching staff back in February. He spent the past three seasons as the passing game coordinator and tight ends caoch in Minnesota.
Angelichio must have felt he needed to make a statement after the recent Rodgers signing.
ESPN’s Brooke Pryor recently called Pittsburgh’s quarterback room a conundrum after adding Rodgers back to the mix. The Steelers now have four quarterbacks with Rodgers joining Mason Rudolph, Will Howard, and rookie Drew Allar.
McCarthy has historically only rostered three quarterbacks during the regular season. In fact, most NFL teams limit themselves to three quarterbacks, though it is not unheard of to keep four.
Still, it would make sense is one quarterback is the odd one out now that Rodgers is locked in as a starter.
The mystery around how many quarterbacks the Steelers will keep adds even more intrigue to their upcoming training camp battle.
It will be exciting to see which quarterbacks come out on top later this summer.
