Aaron Chalmers set to be paid more for Darren Till fight than Floyd Mayweather

Aaron Chalmers is set to earn more for his bare-knuckle fight with Darren Till than what he made against Floyd Mayweather.

The 39-year-old, who gained popularity for his prominent role on reality TV series Geordie Shore, welcomes Till to the Conor McGregor-co-owned BKFC this weekend.

Chalmers started his combat sports career in MMA, signing for Bellator in 2018, before somehow landing a wild exhibition bout with Mayweather in 2023.

‘The Joker’ has since joined BKFC and won both of his bouts with the promotion last year.

Mayweather reportedly made around $20million for his first fight on British soil against Chalmers, which ended in a draw at London’s O2 Arena with no judges present.

Chalmers’ payday was likely the highest of his career for the Mayweather fight, with some outlets reporting his earnings to be in the seven-figure mark.

While an official purse has not been disclosed for Till vs Chalmers, the former has admitted he signed with BKFC because the financial offer was far too good to turn down.

Well, it seems like Chalmers is also in line for a lucrative payday, and he could be taking home more than $1million for his next BKFC outing.

Chalmers: Till purse should be higher than Floyd!

When questioned on his purse being higher to face Till at BKFC 90 on Saturday, compared to Mayweather, Chalmers told talkSPORT.com: “Yes, of course it’s a bigger payday. But then so it should be.

“[I’ve taken the fight] on six weeks’ notice. I accepted the fight on 12 weeks’ notice and then it didn’t come ahead.

“So when [BKFC] came back to it, because I know they couldn’t get an opponent, of course, we had to make it worth my while—absolutely.”

Chalmers is also viewing his fight against Till as a potential huge stepping stone in his career.

“This is the biggest fight of my career,” he added.

“This is a bigger fight than the Floyd Mayweather fight. The Mayweather fight was an exhibition and I just don’t think that many people were interested.

“Because obviously he’s gone from this multiple world champion boxer to fighting, at the time, someone with one boxing fight.

“Whereas now I’m a bit more established in bare-knuckle. Darren’s a huge name, too, and this is by far a much bigger fight than Floyd.

“And it’s probably one of the biggest fights in UK BKFC, and it’s probably the biggest BKFC UK card.”

BKFC 90 is headlined by another battle of the Brits as Birmingham native Connor Tierney takes on Rico Franco for the promotion’s welterweight title.

Till vs Chalmers acts as the chief support act at Birmingham’s Utilita Arena and there is so much at stake for both men.

For Chalmers, an upset could increase his stock tenfold.

Chalmers eyes ‘biggest upset in combat sports history’

“There have been a few names, there’s been things spoken about, but listen, I don’t like to look ahead of me,” Chalmers responded when asked about his path if he overcomes Till.

“Because you can be like, ‘Oh, well, if I win this, then you’ve got to do this.’ Nah, the full focus is on trying to beat Darren Till.

“But let’s not deny that a win over him would probably be the biggest, one of the biggest upsets in combat sports.

“Well, I would say combat sports history. There’s no man, probably even yourself, not many people think that I’m going to win.

“But I have this level of delusion in my head that I am going to win.”

Chalmers believes that if he wins on Saturday, he would rightfully be in line to fight the inaugural BKFC King of Violence champion Mike Perry.

Till has called out longtime rival Perry several times in the build-up to his BKFC debut this weekend.

The pair share a long history that dates back to their UFC careers.

However, Perry returned to MMA earlier this month, stopping Nate Diaz after two rounds in a vicious war.

And ahead of his win on Netflix, Perry hinted when speaking to talkSPORT.com that he may prefer to stick to MMA if he came out victorious.

Nonetheless, Till’s plans are clear whether he gets the Perry fight or not.

“I’m coming here to wipe the whole of the bare-knuckle roster out,” Till said at the BKFC 90 press conference on Thursday.
