76ers’ Nick Nurse reveals VJ Edgecombe’s confident Game 7 Derrick White declaration

The Philadelphia 76ers were able to take care of the Boston Celtics on the road for Game 7, but it wasn’t easy. Though the 76ers had the advantage for most of the first half, the Celtics still found a way to get back into the game, and it was because of the strong play of Derrick White.

After struggling for most of the series, White was the player who kept the Celtics in it, and the 76ers didn’t have an answer for him. During halftime, VJ Edgcombe had a confident declaration for his team, according to Nick Nurse.

“(VJ) kind of came out of the halftime and said ‘I got (Derrick) White and I’m gonna do better on him,’ because White was cooking,” Nurse said.

White ended the game with 26 points, but it was what Edgecombe did in the second half to him that was the difference maker.

The only two players the 76ers had to worry about in Game 7 were White and Jaylen Brown, but nobody else had it going for them. On the other end, the Celtics had to worry about Edgecome, Tyrese Maxey and Joel Embiid, and it was tall task for them, especially down the stretch.

The 76ers will now have another battle to face in the second round against the New York Knicks, and Nurse already knows that it will be a battle.

“I think they’re very good,” Nurse said. “I think their starting lineup’s incredible, I think they continue to bolster their bench… I think they’re very, very good. I think it’s going to be a tremendous challenge.”

The one matchup many will keep their eyes on is Embiid and Karl-Anthony Towns, which is something that could decide the series on either side. Outside of their prior beef, it should be a sight watching them battle as both players can make a difference for their team.
