Glenn Maxwell was released by the Punjab Kings (PBKS) last month. He subsequently announced that he won't be entering the IPL 2026 mini-auction. The Australian all-rounder did not have a great time in the last couple of seasons in the cash-rich league, as he aggregated merely 100 runs across 17 matches in IPL 2024 and IPL 2025 combined.

Punjab Kings roped him in for INR 4.2 crore at the IPL 2025 mega-auction. However, he was ruled out of the tournament mid-season due to a broken finger and was replaced by Mitchell Owen. As the 37-year-old will remain absent from this season's IPL at least, let's take a look at some of the players who have the potential to fill his boots in the future.

Let's take a look at three players who could fill the big boots of Glenn Maxwell in the IPL:

3. Glenn Phillips

Glenn Phillips has all the ingredients of being a superstar in the shortest format. He is a ferocious hitter of the ball, arguably the best fielder in world cricket, and a handy off-spinner. Phillips is also an efficient wicketkeeper.

However, it is surprising to note that he has only played eight IPL matches. He has been retained by the Gujarat Titans for the upcoming edition of the IPL. However, the franchise has released Sherfane Rutherford, who batted at No. 4 for the former champions last season. Maybe IPL 2026 could be the year when the Kiwi cricketer finally takes the league by storm.

2. Donovan Ferreira

Donovan Ferreira recently captained South Africa during a T20I series in Pakistan. Like Phillips, he too started as a wicketkeeper but developed his bowling skills and now contributes with the ball. The 27-year-old was a part of the Delhi Capitals last season and played just one game.

Last month, he was released by the Capitals, and he rejoined his first IPL team, the Rajasthan Royals, for INR 1 crore. Ferreira could play a key role in the upcoming season. He is an underrated T20 batter, even though he has amassed 2353 runs in 108 innings at an average of 28.01 and a strike rate of 167.47.

1. Liam Livingstone

Liam Livingstone played 10 matches for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in IPL 2025. However, he scored just 112 runs at an average of 16 and a strike rate of 133.33. He picked up two wickets with the ball. Livingstone might not be in great form of late, but expect him to be a hot pick at the auction after being released by RCB last month.

Livingstone has a decent overall record in the IPL. He has played 49 matches, scoring 1051 runs at an average of 26.28 and a strike rate of 158.77. The 32-year-old could be one of the batters to watch out for in the impending season of the IPL.
