3 Dodgers’ early trade targets to help LA win another World Series
With the MLB season one-third over, the Los Angeles Dodgers remain contenders to win the World Series for the third consecutive season. They currently have the best odds to win the World Series, according to DraftKings. Despite this, they are always trying to get better. There are several trade targets on their radar who could definitely help them thrive. These players could help them repeat for the second time.
With the MLB trade deadline just a couple of months away, there are potential targets who could make an impact. Here are three Dodgers trade targets who could vault them to a third consecutive title.
Sandy Alcantara
Sandy Alcantara has been rumored to the Dodgers since last season. So far, he is 4-4 with a 4.59 ERA in 13 starts. Although the numbers are better than last season, they are still significantly higher than they were just a few seasons ago. There have been arguments that a change of scenery would benefit Alcanatara.
The Dodgers already have a stacked rotation with the best ERA in baseball. However, as we learned last season, their top starters dominated in the playoffs, especially in the World Series, and that enabled them to win. They still have aces like Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Shohei Ohtani on the mound. But with Blake Snell currently sidelined, and other starters not dominating, the team might look for outside help.
Riley O’Brien
Riley O’Brien has been an efficient reliever for the St. Louis Cardinals, going 3-2 with a 2.96 ERA and 15 saves in 19 chances. So far, Tanner Scott has been the closer since Edwin Diaz is out. Scott is 1-2 with a 2.10 ERA and six saves with one blown save. The Dodgers have a combined six blown saves this season.
Riley O’Brien has been a trade target for the Dodgers, and he would be a great option for them if they choose to go that route. Yes, the team still is sixth in bullpen ERA. They have one of the best bullpens in the league. But as we saw last season, they lost faith in their bullpen in the World Series, and it ended up paying off, as Yamamoto acted as a de facto bullpen ace the day after he pitched Game 6. If the Dodgers feel a need, then O’Brien could be an option.
Tarik Skubal
Of course, the never-ending rumors about Tarik Skubal will continue un til he either signs an extension or finds a trade partner. The Dodgers have competition from other teams for Skubal’s services. However, there is also the issue of his current injury. Skubal has dealt with an elbow injury that has kept him out since late April. While he is starting a rehab assignment soon, there will be questions about his health until he is on the mound.
Skubal is a two-time Cy-Young award winner and would instantly vault the Dodgers into even bigger heights than they already are. With aces like Ohtani and Yamamoto already on the team, Skubal would make it even deadlier. If the Dodgers can somehow pull off the trade of the century and get Skubal, then the question won’t be whether they can win the World Series, but whether anyone can counter to stop them.
