The first of 24 scheduled Grands Prix taking place between now and the first weekend in December gets underway in the early hours of Sunday morning as the season opening race in Melbourne gets the brand new campaign underway.

The new F1 season features a major set of regulation changes with a revised power unit configuration and new active aerodynamics which make the new campaign a particularly difficult one to predict as it’s unknown which teams have adapted best to the new regulations.

There are also two new teams added to the grid this year, with Audi replacing Sauber and Cadillac making their debut in the Championship, meaning this season will be the first since 2016 to have 11 teams and 22 drivers competing from the off.

Sergio Perez and Valtteri Bottas, formerly rivals at Red Bull and Mercedes respectively, are now teammates at Cadillac, while other moves in the drivers’ seats has seen Isack Hadjar move from Racing Bulls to replace Yuki Tsunoda at Red Bull, with the Frenchman’s seat being taking by 18-year-old rookie Arvid Lindblad, the fifth Brit on the grid.

Mercedes are currently thought to have the best car on the circuit heading into the opening weekend, currently 5/4 favourites for a first constructors’ championship title since 2021.

George Russell heads into the first race of the season as the current favourite to win what would be his first drivers’ championship, presently priced at 2/1.

Four-time world champion Max Verstappen is priced just behind at 3/1 to drive his Red Bull to the title, while Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc, also looking for his first ever championship, is also very much in the running at 4/1.

In terms of British interest, Lewis Hamilton is priced as fourth favourite at 15/2 to win what would be a record breaking eighth world championship in his second season at Ferrari, while reigning world champion Lando Norris is joint-fifth at 10/1 in what appears to be a less dominant McLaren than he drove last year.

Ollie Bearman, in his second season in F1 is a 300/1 shot to win the world title in his Haas, while Racing Bulls teenage driver Lindblad is 400/1 to become the first rookie in 76 years to win the world championship.

2026 Formula One drivers’ champion odds (talkSPORT BET):

  • George Russell – 2/1
  • Max Verstappen – 3/1
  • Charles Leclerc – 4/1
  • Lewis Hamilton – 15/2
  • Kimi Antonelli – 10/1
  • Lando Norris – 10/1
  • Oscar Piastri – 10/1
  • 100/1 BAR
