The New York Yankees are hoping to return to full strength with their rotation soon. Both Gerrit Cole and Carlos Rodon are working their way back from injuries. New York’s manager Aaron Boone is revealing some new key information about their recovery.

“Aaron Boone said he still expects Carlos Rodón back before Gerrit Cole,” Yankees reporter Byan Hoch posted to X, formerly Twitter.

Rodon is scheduled to throw a practice session on Saturday, Hoch reported, with 55-60 pitches. He could work in a minor-league game as soon as the next few days after that. Rodon has battled elbow and hamstring problems.

Cole meanwhile hasn’t pitched in a Yankees game since the 2024 season. The veteran is recovering from Tommy John surgery. Cole has said in recent weeks that he is slowly getting stronger and better.

“We’ll probably want him to get up to a certain amount and probably repeat that even once he gets up there, so nothing is imminent here — we’ll make sure we’re disciplined and take the right amount of time,” Boone said, per SNY-TV.

Cole is currently on a rehab assignment in Double-A.

Yankees are struggling right now

The Yankees need these pitchers back. After a hot start to the 2026 season, New York has really struggled. The Yankees are just 11-9 on the year, with seven losses in the last 10 games.

The frustration seems to be mounting. Manager Boone was ejected during a recent Yankees loss to the Los Angeles Angels. It happened after one of his pitchers, Ryan Yarbrough, was called for a balk.

“I still haven’t got good clarity,” Boone said after the game, per MLB.com. “I just wanted to hear their explanation.”

Expectations are high for the Yankees this season. New York has yet to win a World Series under Boone, and fans are thirsting to see the team win one again. The last time the Bronx Bombers won a World Series was way back in 2009.

New York faces off on Saturday against the Kansas City Royals.
