Who has the most rushing yards in a Super Bowl game? Kenneth Walker eyes record in San Francisco
Kenneth Walker III will be hoping to make some Super Bowl history on February 8 when his Seattle Seahawks go for a ring.
The Seahawks are taking on the New England Patriots in the big game in California, with everything on the line.

Walker posted the most rushing yards of any player to be featuring in the Super Bowl this year after an impressive season.
The Patriots’ TreVeyon Henderson is close behind him for overall yards, but making a huge amount of yardage in one game is rare.
And that is why no one has ever managed to get close to this long-standing piece of Super Bowl history…
Who has the most rushing yards in a Super Bowl game?
The record for the most rushing yards in Super Bowl history has been untouched for 38 years.
Washington star Timmy Smith recorded 204 rushing yards in 1988 and no player has ever managed to beat that.
Smith achieved the feat against the Denver Broncos in Super Bowl XXII, where his team came out dominant 42-10 winners.
The running back scored two touchdowns in the game on top of setting a new record for the most rushing yards.
His 204 yards toppled Marcus Allen’s 191 yards four years prior.
All of the top five most yards in a Super Bowl game have come before the turn of the century, with approaches changing over the years.
Since 2010, only three players have rushed for more than 100.
Most rushing yards ever in Super Bowl
- 204 yards: Timmy Smith (1988)
- 191 yards: Marcus Allen (1984)
- 166 yards: John Riggins (1983)
- 158 yards: Franco Harris (1975)
- 157 yards: Terrell Davis (1998)

The San Francisco 49ers‘ Frank Gore, the Kansas City Chiefs‘ Damien Williams and the Seahawks’ Marshawn Lynch have done so.
Last year, quarterback Jalen Hurts was the only player to even get close to 100 yards, rushing for 72 for the Philadelphia Eagles.
Even by reaching 100 though, players are nowhere near Smith’s 200+ record and it’s likely to remain untouched.
Could Walker break the record?
Walker’s highest rushing yard total is 116, so he will need a huge season’s best yardage to get near the top five in the history books.
Meanwhile, the Patriots’ running backs, Rhamondre Stevenson and Henderson, will also need huge performances.
Stevenson’s best this season is 131 yards, while Henderson’s best is 148 yards – so, neither would make the list without a new high.

Most rushing touchdowns in Super Bowl history
The record for the most rushing touchdowns in the Super Bowl is shared between Hurts and Terrell Davis.
They both managed to rush for three touchdowns in a game.
Davis, who also appears on the list for the most rushing yards ever with 157 in 1998, got his touchdowns in the same outing.
All of his touchdowns were scored from one yard out, making 30 carries in the game in which he made Super Bowl history.
As for Hurts, he scored three times in 2023 in what was his first appearance in the big game of the Eagles.
