Who Dodgers promoted after placing Will Smith on IL with neck inflammation
The Los Angeles Dodgers’ injury issues have continued to mount recently, with catcher Will Smith recently going on the injured list due to neck inflammation. The Dodgers have been up and down over the last week or so, recently blowing a 5-run lead to lose a road game to the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Now, the Dodgers have made another roster move, seemingly in response to the Smith injury.
“#Dodgers officially announce their moves — Will Smith to the Injured List with “neck inflammation” and Chuckie Robinson promoted from Triple-A,” reported Bill Plunkett of the Orange County Register on X, formerly Twitter.
The hope is that Smith’s injury won’t be anything that will keep him out of the lineup long term.
Robinson has played exactly one game for the Dodgers, which occurred toward the end of the regular season last year, before he was released, claimed by the Atlanta Braves, hit free agency, and then signed another minor league deal with Los Angeles.
Smith has been a key part of the Dodgers’ hitting order for several years now, hitting the go-ahead run in extra innings of last year’s World Series Game 7 against the Toronto Blue Jays, which wound up winning the game and giving Los Angeles its second straight championship.
The Dodgers currently sit at 43-25 on the season, good for first place in the NL West by a whopping 7.5 games thanks to the continued struggles of the San Diego Padres, and trailing only the Atlanta Braves for the best record in baseball overall.
The Dodgers will next hit the field on Thursday evening for the final game of their series vs the Pirates.
