When does the January transfer window shut? Deadline day details with delayed end to winter market

The January transfer window for the 2025/26 season is well underway, but there is a different closing date this time around.

It has been a slow start to the window for Premier League sides with only a couple of teams active.

Antoine Semenyo has joined Manchester City in a deal worth up to £65million after the Citizens activated his release clause.

And Tottenham Hotspur have just signed Conor Gallagher from Atletico Madrid for around £35m.

To buy Gallagher, they used the fee they received from Crystal Palace for Brennan Johnson.

Bar that, there has been very little in terms of transfer action.

But with injuries starting to mount up for teams up and down the league, there is plenty of time for deals to happen due to a slight change.

When does the transfer window close?

The transfer window in Europe opened on Thursday, January 1.

It is due to close on Monday, February 2.

Usually, the window slams shut at 11pm in the Premier League, but it will be 7pm this time.

This is more to do with bringing it in line with the other big European leagues and also it’s the same as the summer.

The window also normally ends on January 31.

However, because January 31 falls on a Saturday this year, clubs have two extra days to ensure that the final day is on a week day.
