West Indies veteran all-rounder Kieron Pollard hurt his shoulder while celebrating a crucial wicket during MI New York's match against Seattle Orcas in the ongoing Major League Cricket 2026 season at Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas on Saturday, July 11.

Pollard appeared to hurt his shoulder while celebrating the wicket and was clearly seen in discomfort when he walked off the field. The incident occurred in the 16th over of Seattle Orcas' chase when Pollard bowled Matthew Breetzke for 44 off 31 balls. Pollard celebrated with great energy, running across the field and pointing towards his head, showing that the dismissal came because of smart planning and clever bowling rather than just pace or luck. However, the exuberant celebration cost him as he took a tumble on the field.

The good news came moments later. In a big relief, the former West Indies captain returned to bowl in the final over against Seattle Orcas and sent a cleverly slower full toss to dismiss Ali Sheikh on the fifth ball of the 20th over, with Tajinder Dhillon completing a safe catch at deep mid-wicket. Pollard's return to the field proved crucial in sealing the win.

MI New York's dramatic turnaround in MLC 2026

A remarkable lower-order recovery led by Tajinder Singh's unbeaten 27-ball 66 propelled MI New York to a 17-run win over Seattle Orcas. Tajinder joined Kieron Pollard in an 80-run stand for the sixth wicket off just 41 balls, before Marcus Stoinis returned and dismissed Pollard for a 33-ball 54 in the 19th over. MI New York's bowling attack then took over. Orcas managed just 18 runs off their last 26 balls for the loss of five wickets, with Pollard and Shepherd taking two each.

MI New York captain Nicholas Pooran was pleased with his side's performance despite the injury scare for his veteran all-rounder.

"We got a little lucky as well. But the West Indian combo of Shepherd and Polly was magnificent for us. He had a little niggle, but he has to take care of that. Almost 15000 runs in T20s. According to me, he is one of the greatest batters to have played at number 5 or number 6 in this format," Pooran said at the post-match presentation ceremony.

The wicket ended Seattle Orcas' hopes, with MI New York completing a dramatic turnaround in the final over and winning the MLC 2026 match by 17 runs on July 11.

With this win, New York jumped to the third spot with 10 points from nine games so far. MINY have 10 points from nine games and are only behind San Francisco Unicorns and Los Angeles Knight Riders. The MLC 2026 final is scheduled for July 19, 2026, at Oakland Coliseum.
