Virginia Tech HC James Franklin scores 4-star recruiting coup over Ohio State, UNC, Auburn
On Sunday, four-star cornerback Bryce Woods pledged his commitment to Virginia Tech during his official visit to Blacksburg.
A standout from Woodward Academy in Georgia (listed as both Atlanta and College Park in reports), Woods is rated as the No. 206 prospect in the Rivals300 and also appears as the No. 204 overall player nationally in the 247Sports Top247. The 247Sports Composite ranking places him at No. 270 nationally, while also listing him as the No. 30 cornerback in the class and the No. 27 recruit in Georgia. He is also ranked as the No. 27 cornerback nationally in one ranking and No. 20 among Georgia prospects.
The defensive back is a consensus four-star recruit with a 90 rating in the 247Sports evaluation system and has drawn more than 38 to 40 scholarship offers during his recruitment process. His offer list includes major programs such as Ohio State, North Carolina, Auburn, Missouri, NC State, Tennessee, Duke, Arkansas, Colorado, Mississippi State, and others.
Woods ultimately chose the Hokies and reportedly ended his recruitment during the official visit, despite previously scheduled visits elsewhere, including a planned trip to Ohio State and a canceled Mississippi State visit.
Defensive coordinator Brent Pry and Virginia Tech’s staff view Woods as one of the most valuable defensive additions in the current recruiting cycle.
Since late April, the Hokies have remained inside the Top 10 of the 247Sports national recruiting rankings, thanks to momentum built under head coach James Franklin. Virginia Tech also previously secured Georgia running back Stanley Smart earlier in the spring, continuing their success in the state.
