Victor Wembanyama did not stutter about NBA Finals pressures after Game 2 gaffes

The San Antonio Spurs find themselves in an unenviable position as they are currently down 0-2 in the NBA Finals against the New York Knicks with the next two games on the Knicks’ home floor. There would seemingly be a lot of pressure facing the Spurs as they head into Game 3 of the NBA Finals, but San Antonio Spurs’ star Victor Wembanyama believes he is up to the challenge, as per SNY Knicks.

“I think the key is acceptance a lot of times,” Wembanyama said during a media availability session in between games. “Taking a step back, realizing the journey that’s behind this and what’s ahead of us, and just being okay with who I am, where I am and what I’m doing. I think at the end of the day, this is everything that I wished for, so there’s no reason to overthink it. This is what I’m built for.”

Coming off a dominant series during the Spurs’ Western Conference Finals series win against the Oklahoma City Thunder, Victor Wembanyama hasn’t quite had the same impact against the Knicks as the NBA Finals have gotten underway.

He did drop 26 and 29 points, respectively, during the first two games of the series, but he hasn’t really shot the ball well and late game hiccups in Game 2 led to the Spurs falling behind 0-2.

Overall though, the playoffs have been like a giant coming-out party for the former No. 1 overall pick. Amid his first postseason experience, he’s averaging 23.6 points, 10.7 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 1.0 steals and a playoff-leading 3.5 blocked shots. He shooting 49.5 percent from the field, 35.4 percent from the 3-point line and 86 percent from the free-throw line.

With the crucial Game 3 scheduled for Monday, June 8, the world will see if Wembanyama has another gear left in him to help the Spurs get back in this series.
