The UK Open gets underway in Minehead on Friday, with 160 of the top darts players around the world competing to be crowned champion on Sunday night, with world number one Luke Littler out to defend his title.

Luke Littler heads into the UK Open this weekend looking to defend the title he won so emphatically last year, in which he averaged at least 102 in five of his six matches across the weekend, culminating in an 11-2 thrashing of James Wade in the final.

The world number one and current two-time reigning world champion is priced as the favourite for victory at Butlin’s in Sunday’s final, and despite a slow start to this year’s Premier League will be supremely confident ahead of this weekend, as he currently holds seven of the eight titles of the PDC ranked televised events, having won each of the last four.

The UK Open is commonly referred to as “the FA Cup of Darts” due its unseeded round-by-round open draw system with the potential for the top two favourites meeting each other in the early rounds, making it stand out from the rest of the darts events.

World number two Luke Humphries takes the mantle of second favourite for this weekend’s tournament, one of the two PDC ranked television trophies he is yet to get his hands on, though has reached the final on two previous occasions, losing 11-10 against Mike de Decker two years ago.

Gerwyn Price and Gian van Veen are priced as the joint third-favourites with Ladbrokes pricing them each at 12/1.

This will be the Welshman’s 13th time competing in the UK Open, but is still looking for his first title despite having finished runners up on two occasions, most recently losing to three-time champions Michael van Gerwen in a gripping final in 2022.

Van Veen is very much the new kid on the block but has performed exceedingly well over the last year, the two-time reigning world youth champion reached the final of the World Championships at the start of this year, and earned his first ranking title at the European Championship last year.

The 23-year-old Dutchman, ranked number three in the world, has also impressed in his first Premier League campaign so far, reaching three out of the four finals at the time of writing, and is currently the only player currently in possession of a ranking title aside from world number one Littler.

Josh Rock and van Gerwen are also expected to reach the latter stages of the tournament, priced at 16/1 each at joint fifth favourite.

The Northern Irish youngster is yet to win a ranked televised title bet reached the semi finals in Minehead last year and is expected to reach a similar stage this time around.

Mighty Mike, meanwhile, is a three-time UK Open champion, but hasn’t won in Minehead since 2020 and hasn’t won a ranked televised title of any kind since 2022, leaving won long overdue.
