Tyson Fury re-enters heavyweight rankings in boost after Arslanbek Makhmudov win

Tyson Fury has found himself back in the heavyweight rankings at No.3 after his win over Arslanbek Makhmudov.

The ‘Gypsy King’ was removed from the Ring Magazine’s top ten list given he was inactive after retiring from the sport.

But Fury returned to the squared circle for the first time since losing to Oleksandr Usyk twice in 2024.

He outboxed Russian giant Arslanbek Makhmudov to get back to winning ways.

And as a result, Fury has been reinstated in the rankings where he now sits at No.3.

It sees him sit behind champion Oleksandr Usyk, leading heavyweight contender Agit Kabayel and WBO title holder Fabio Wardley.

Fury slots above Daniel Dubois who sits in fourth, with Filip Hrgovic and young prodigy Moses Itauma sitting in fitfh and sixth.

It is a big boost for the ‘Gypsy King’ who is primarily back to lure the biggest names into the ring.

He has spoken heavily about a trilogy clash with leading name Usyk.

But he will likely first prioritise a clash with bitter rival Anthony Joshua, who will be looking to get his own name back in the rankings.

What next for Fury?

After his victory over Makhmudov, Fury made it abundantly clear that Joshua is his sole next objective.

He called for Joshua next, who sat ringside, and the pair exchanged heated words despite not facing off.

Joshua is being explored to immediately meet Fury next, despite having been in a car accident since his last fight in December.

But a warm-up fight is being deemed the more likely option to give him time to adequately prepare for the Gypsy King.

Although Joshua suggested he could see Fury as a return fight given his display against Makhmudov.

He said: “[Fury] could be a warm-up fight after what I saw tonight.

“We’ll see. I was just in a serious incident just four months ago and I need to see what’s going on with my return to the ring.

“I’m here and keeping my eye on the game. There’s real stuff happening in my life.”
