Twins’ Joe Ryan leaves start after just 9 pitches with apparent injury
The Minnesota Twins have gotten off to a rough start to the 2026 MLB season, currently sitting at 14-20 on the campaign. The Twins are in serious danger of missing out on the playoffs for the third consecutive year, and in Sunday’s game against the reigning AL champion Toronto Blue Jays, the Twins got an injury scare regarding one of their best players.
“Twins starter Joe Ryan was removed from Sunday’s MLB Sunday Leadoff game on Peacock after two batters due to an apparent injury,” reported Matthew Leach of MLB.com.
As of yet, there is no indication on what the injury is, but before the game, Ryan was seen stretching his lower half in the dugout, per Leach. Andrew Morris ended up taking the mound as his replacement after Ryan exited the contest.
Prior to suffering the injury, Ryan had struck out Yohendrick Piñango and walked Kazuma Okamoto, before calling the catcher to the mound, at which point manager Derek Shelton and athletic trainer Masa Abe also came out, and Ryan was removed shortly thereafter.
Ryan is one of the best pitchers in the MLB landscape today, and has had a solid start to the 2026 MLB season, recording a 3.76 ERA heading into Sunday’s game, with a record of 2-3.
If Ryan is out for an extended period of time, it would certainly be a tough blow for a Minnesota team that has already gotten behind the eight ball thus far on the 2026 MLB season.
In any case, Twins fans will certainly be hoping for a positive update on Ryan in the near future.
