Tottenham Hotspur January transfer in jeopardy as injury confirmed by manager

Manchester City winger Savinho faces up to two months on the sidelines – effectively ruling out a January move to Tottenham Hotspur.

The Brazilian winger went off with an unknown injury in the second half in the 0-0 draw away at Sunderland on New Year’s Day.

He subsequently missed City‘s subsequent 1-1 home draws against both Chelsea and Brighton.

And in a blow for the Premier League title rivals, boss Pep Guardiola has now confirmed he may not be back until March.

Speaking in his post-match press conference after the Seagulls clash, the Spaniard was asked how long Savinho will be out for, to which he replied: “Long.”

Pressed as to whether the 21-year-old will miss the remainder of the campaign, Guardiola said: “No! Come on… long is long, but it isn’t a century!

“Month-and-a half, two months, but he will be back.”

Savin-oh no!

While City now have a key player on the treatment table for the foreseeable future, Spurs will likely now have to turn their attention to a new winger.

The north London giants have been on the lookout for a new forward after selling Brennan Johnson to Crystal Palace for £35million.

talkSPORT recently reported how Spurs were reading a move to bring Savinho to the club after missing out on him last summer.

With Thomas Frank already under pressure following Wednesday night’s 3-2 defeat away at Bournemouth, he has now been handed a further headache in his recruitment plans.

As for City, they will soon be welcoming Antoine Semenyo from Bournemouth in a £65m deal.

And Guardiola remained tight-lipped as to whether City will look to replace Savinho before the winter transfer window slams shut on February 3.

He simply stated: “I don’t know.

“I don’t know what’s going to happen in the transfer window, I don’t know.”

It was another frustrating night for Guardiola and City, as they dropped points for a third consecutive game.

And while they closed the gap on leaders Arsenal to five points, they could trail Mikel Arteta‘s men by eight points should the Gunners beat Liverpool at the Emirates on Thursday night – live on talkSPORT.

Having his say on the club’s struggles, Guardiola said: “It’s quite obvious, it’s the way we play, and the energy we have.

“It’s simple, the energy and the way we play will create the chances that we create, expected goals.

“It’s just we don’t put the ball in the net, that’s all, i’s not just one player, it’s a lot.”
