Thomas Frank told perfect Premier League job after Tottenham sack

Thomas Frank has been backed to potentially take the Crystal Palace job following his sacking by Tottenham Hotspur.

After a 2-1 defeat to Newcastle, Spurs decided to pull the trigger on the Dane and remove him from his post just eight months after his appointment last summer.

Spurs made a decent start under Frank and still boast one of the best Premier League away records.

But the home form was shocking, winning just twice, and as a result, the north London side are embroiled in a relegation battle.

But Simon Jordan believes that despite losing some of his credibility, ex-Brentford boss Frank still has more than enough to manage at Premier League level.

Speaking on White and Jordan with Jim White, the former Crystal Palace owner said: “Has he been diminished? Of course he has. But success isn’t always a straight line.

“He will have to rebuild a little bit, but now what is being considered is that he’s not capable of managing a big club. He’s clearly capable of managing clubs.

“People are now going to go after him because of the job Keith Andrews is doing [at Brentford].

“But if the culture of the club is right, you hand over a decent opportunity.

“But it will be interesting to find out from him what lessons he thinks he’s learned from the mistakes at Tottenham.

“He’s now back in the club of managers who can mange in the Premier League but only a certain type of club.

“But is that an awful thing? To be able to manage but just not a big six club.”

When asked where Frank will end up, White suggested Palace with current boss Oliver Glasner set to leave at the end of the season.

In response, Jordan said: “Yeah, possibly. A Palace job might be a reasonable job, but Palace fans might say, ‘You catapulted Tottenham into a relegation battle, we don’t want any of that.’

“But there must be a raft of loads of other reasons behind it. But Thomas Frank‘s next opportunity will be a lesser club.”

Since Spurs sacked Frank, reports have emerged that suggested the Dane talked about Arsenal a lot – to the point of it annoying the Spurs players. Frank was rather unfortunately pictured holding an Arsenal-branded cup before Spurs’ defeat at Bournemouth in January.

Equally, there was a time when Frank asked for the players to turn up to training on time, and several were late.

This irritated Jordan, who said: “Whoever is trotting that out isn’t necessarily just pointing a bad light on Thomas Frank, but it is pointing a light on the players themselves.

“I don’t know if Thomas Frank is so unaware and obtuse in his thinking that he would spend his entire time talking about Arsenal. He doesn’t strike me as that sort of stupid.

“Players come out and say things and use agents or media hounds, and I have no respect for them.”

What’s next for Frank?

The end of the Dane was pretty undignified with the decision made at half time of the game against Newcastle.

But he did receive a multi-million pay-off for the remainder of his contract.

However, you would think he’d want to get back into management sooner rather than later.

This stint at Spurs doesn’t remotely diminish his performance as Brentford manager over a long period of time.
