‘They broke something in me’ – Yves Bissouma reveals depression and paranoia after break-in as he issues balloon apology
Yves Bissouma has explained his latest misdemeanour was brought on by ‘paranoia’ after thieves broke into his home.
The Tottenham midfielder was filmed using a nitrous oxide balloon, which was made a Class C drug in 2023 as part of the UK government’s anti-social behaviour action plan.

A Tottenham spokesperson told PA Bissouma’s latest indiscretion would ‘be dealt with as an internal matter’.
But in an interview with The Sun, Bissouma opened up on how a July break-in to his home turned his world upside down.

“I am sorry,” Bissouma said.
“This incident [break-in] broke something in me I didn’t even know I could break.
“I apologise to the fans. The trauma added to my life – fear, panic, depression and paranoia.”
Following the break-in, Bissouma shared clips which revealed the devastating aftermath of the break-in.
In the videos, Bissouma claimed the burglars ‘took everything’, including designer bags, watches and jewellery.
Bissouma’s terrifying encounters with burglars
It was the third time Bissouma had been targeted by thieves.
Bissouma was forced to flee out the back of his property in November last year when masked men attempted to hammer through his front door.
The 29-year-old added: “I’ve asked myself, ‘Why me?’, more times than I can count.

“I hate feeling like a victim, but what I lost wasn’t just material.
“It was what the trauma added to my life – fear, panic, depression, paranoia, sleepless nights and a constant loss of trust.”
In addition to the frightening break-ins, Bissouma claimed a friend stole £1million from him at the start of the year.
Bissouma is yet to play for Tottenham this season after he was left out of the squad for their UEFA Super Cup loss to Paris Saint-Germain.
Speaking prior to the contest, Tottenham boss Thomas Frank explained Bissouma’s omission was because of ‘disciplinary reasons’.
“He has been late several times and the latest time was one too many,” Frank added.

Bissouma also fell foul of the rules at the start of last season when he posted himself using a nitrous oxide balloon to his own social media.
The midfielder was handed a one-game ban, which meant he missed Tottenham’s 1-1 draw with Leicester City.
Following the suspension, Bissouma said the videos were ‘a severe lack of judgment’ and stated he took his ‘responsibilities as a footballer and a role model very seriously.’
He has also had injury issues to compound a tough 2025.
