The Seahawks’ new Pope Super Bowl streak doesn’t miss
If there’s a new Pope elected to lead the Catholic church, bet your mortgage on the Seattle Seahawks going to the Super Bowl. Okay, maybe don’t go that far, but a pizza bet with friends that Seattle will win the NFC could get you some free food when there’s new Pope. The Seahawks were already my pick to win Super Bowl LX even before I learned about this, and now it’s a cinch.
A new Pope has been elected three teams in the 21st century, and each time it’s happened the Seahawks have gone to the Super Bowl that yet. In fact, all three times the Seahawks only lost three games during the entire regular season. Here are the numbers, via Reddit:
2005: Pope Benedict XVI elected: Seahawks finish 13-3, reach Super Bowl XL, and lose to Steelers
2013: Pope Francis I elected, Seahawks finish 13-3, reach Super Bowl XLVIII, and beat Broncos
2025: Pope Leo XIV elected, Seahawks finish 14-3, reach Super Bowl LX, face Patriots
Pope Leo XIV might be a Bears fan (and Cubs hater <3) who delivered many miracles to Chicago this season, but the College of Cardinals apparently has a soft spot for the Seahawks. When the white smoke goes up, the Seahawks come down with a great season.
