‘That is criminal’ – Morgan Rogers and Cole Palmer have hilarious argument after Man-of-the-Match prize awarded  

Morgan Rogers couldn’t believe that he didn’t get awarded Man of the Match after Chelsea’s 6-3 win over Leeds United in the Carabao Cup.

The Blues were trailing 1-0 at half time in their delayed game before Xabi Alonso introduced Rogers, Cole Palmer and Pedro Neto at half time to totally flip the game.

Palmer scored twice and Rogers grabbed FOUR assists, but it was the former who claimed the Man of the Match award.

This led to a pretty hilarious argument live on Sky Sports between the pair.

It started with Rogers, who said: “Mate, I got four assists! Nah, nah, I can’t believe that. That is mental. He scored a penalty. That is mental.”

Palmer then said: “I started the comeback. But I’ll say you should have had it.”

To which Rogers responded: “Don’t mention me. I am just a bystander. That is criminal.”

Rogers robbed

There is no question that both players had a huge impact on the game even if it wasn’t immediate.

That is because Leeds doubled their lead early in the second half through Brenden Aaronson.

They had opened the scoring through Tarik Muharemovic’s towering header and were good value for it.

But Dan James’ foul on Pep Chavarria in the Leeds box changed everything.

Palmer stepped up to score a penalty, and he bagged the equaliser soon after.

Reece James hurled a throw-in into the box that Rogers flicked into Palmer’s path.

The England international wrapped his left boot around it and sent it into the far corner.

It was soon 3-2 with Rogers grabbing his second assist after Palmer had played a pass to him.

The pass wasn’t quite perfect, so the former Aston Villa man lunged at the ball.

He won the 50/50 and sent it through for Neto, who struck a lovely first-time strike off the inside of the far post.

The hat-trick of assists came for Rogers as he dribbled down the right and played a low ball into the box.

Danny Welbeck controlled, turned and fired it home via a slight deflection.

There is definitely the argument to suggest the fourth assist for Rogers might not actually be his.

He drilled a low cross in that deflected to Valentin Barco, who lashed home from close range.

But even if it doesn’t go down as his, he still definitely got a hat-trick of assists.

Alonso’s thoughts

It has been an exciting start to life for Alonso at Chelsea with his side scoring and conceding plenty of goals.

And he admitted after the game that he got his team selection wrong with nine changes from the defeat to Arsenal.

He said: “Yeah, there was so many changes. There was a risk.

“Things weren’t going the way we planned, so we had to change (at half-time). I take responsibility with the first half.

“They knew they weren’t starting and they were ready to make an impact. I’m happy with the result and the reaction.”

But he is pleased to see Palmer and Rogers linking up so nicely, adding: “For sure, it’s so important. To have a great chemistry between them. They enjoy assisting together. It’s important for the team.”
