Texas Tech QB Brendan Sorsby away from program, seeking gambling addiction treatment
Texas Tech football broke out in a major way in 2025, rolling through the Big 12 on its way to a conference title and reaching the quarterfinals of the College Football Playoff. The run under Joey McGuire proved that the Red Raiders are going to be a force in the NIL era, and they proved it again this offseason.
After struggling at quarterback last season, Texas Tech spent big to go get former Cincinnati signal-caller Brendan Sorsby in the transfer portal. Now, that addition is off to a rocky start.
Sorsby is currently away from the team while he seeks help for a gambling addiction, per ESPN’s Pete Thamel. The NCAA is investigating Sorsby’s gambling after he made “thousands of bets” on a gambling app.
