Wednesday football tips
Bet of the Day – Real Madrid to score over 2.5 goals v Benfica @ 5/4
There were some controversial scenes in the first leg of the Champions League play-off between Benfica and Real Madrid at the Estadio da Luz.
Real will hope to avoid any repeat at the Bernabeu and are likely to send the Eagles packing. Los Blancos lead 1-0 after the first leg in Lisbon and can hammer home their advantage.
Alvaro Arbeloa’s side have won 14 of their 16 games at the Bernabeu this term and scored 19 goals in their last five home matches.
Real were beaten 2-1 at Osasuna at the weekend, but Los Blancos dominated that game and they shouldn’t make the same mistake with motivation at its peak at the Bernabeu.
Backing Real Madrid to score over 2.5 goals rates the best play on Wednesday’s coupon.
Special of the Day – Monaco or draw double chance, over 2.5 goals & both teams to score bet builder @ 27/4
PSG are 2/9 to beat Monaco and make smooth progress past the play-off rounds, however, it may not be as comfortable as the market anticipates.
The Parisians failed to win any of their final three Champions League group-stage matches, where they drew with Athletic Club and Newcastle and lost to Sporting.
Luis Enrique’s side trailed Monaco 2-0 in the first leg, but Aleksandr Golovin’s red card allowed PSG to turn the tie in their favour.
PSG have lost to Paris FC, Rennes, Marseille and Monaco this term and they are not as convincing as when winning this competition last season.
Taking Monaco and the draw on the double chance, over 2.5 goals and both teams to score in a bet builder pays a juicy 27/4.
Longshot of the Day – Coventry, Birmingham, Stoke treble @ 13/1
There is a tasty 13/1 Championship treble to play on Wednesday night.
Sheffield United played much of the Steel City derby with ten men on Sunday and they were run hard by now relegated Wednesday.
The Blades were unconvincing in that contest and that doesn’t look ideal preparation for the visit of Coventry.
The Sky Blues were deserved 2-0 winners at West Brom last weekend and Frank Lampard’s men can strengthen their promotion chances.
Birmingham have lost only one of their last 13 matches in 90 minutes and Blues got the better of an in-form Norwich side at Carrow Road last time out. The Second City club can beat promotion rivals Millwall at The Den.
Stoke need a victory to keep their play-off hopes alive and the Potters have been handed a golden opportunity with a home game against Oxford.
The U’s have won only two of their last 17 matches in 90 minutes and, while Matt Bloomfield’s men can be tough to break down, they carry little attacking threat.
