Tuesday football tips
Bet of the Day – West Ham to beat Manchester United @ 17/5
It’s a perfect four wins from four games for Michael Carrick in his second spell in interim charge of Manchester United, but the bubble may burst at the London Stadium.
Fault is hard to find in the Red Devils’ performances, beating Manchester City 2-0 before producing another impressive display in outlasting Arsenal 3-2 in Carrick’s second game in charge.
However, they benefited from two wonderstrikes against the Gunners and were less convincing in a 3-2 win over Fulham before Tottenham’s Cristian Romero was sent off, handing United the 2-0 victory at the weekend.
Of course, Carrick could keep United winning until the end of the season and beyond, but it appears more likely that there will be some drop off in the coming weeks and that could start against West Ham.
The Hammers picked up a huge three points at Burnley on Saturday and it’s three wins in four games for the Irons, who are giving themselves a shot at survival.
Nuno Espirito Santo has the tactical acumen to make life difficult for United in east London, and the 17/5 on offer about a West Ham win appears a little too big.
Special of the Day – Tottenham to win and Newcastle to score under 1.5 goals bet builder @ 41/20
Tottenham’s 2-0 Old Trafford defeat to Manchester United on Saturday heaped more pressure on manager Thomas Frank, but Spurs may be able to dig out a result when Newcastle come to north London.
It’s been a tricky spell for the Lilywhites, but Romero’s red card removed any chance of success at Old Trafford and Spurs had previously held Manchester City to a 2-2 draw.
Newcastle have lost only four of their last five matches, but the Magpies were second-best in Saturday’s 3-2 defeat to Brentford at St James’ Park and have scored only eight goals in their last eight games.
Nick Woltemade and Yoane Wissa, who have scored only eight top-flight goals between them this term, appear unable to convert the chances Newcastle created and that could open the door for a Tottenham success.
A Spurs win and under 1.5 Newcastle goals bet builder pays an attractive 41/20.
Longshot of the Day – Bournemouth to beat Everton, Leeds to beat Chelsea, Birmingham to beat West Brom treble @ 27/1
Bournemouth have been excellent in recent home matches against Arsenal, Tottenham, Liverpool and Aston Villa, and there is no reason to think the Cherries can replicate those efforts on Merseyside.
Despite winning 2-1 at Fulham on Saturday, Everton have hit the net only six times in their last six matches and the Toffees can be opposed in this spot.
Leeds were excellent when beating Nottingham Forest 3-1 last Friday and the Whites rate a monster price to win at Chelsea.
The Blues have a talented squad, but the west Londoners were battered 3-1 at Elland Road in December, and a repeat of that success looks overpriced.
It’s only one home league defeat all season for Birmingham and fortress St Andrew’s is helping to keep Blues in the promotion picture.
West Brom have lost 11 of their last 12 road trips and an away win appears mighty unlikely.
