talkSPORT betting tips – Best golf bets and expert advice for the Genesis Invitational

The PGA Tour heads to Riviera Country Club in San Diego for this week’s Genesis Invitational, the second Signature Event of the season following last week’s AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am.

World number one Scottie Scheffler is the 3/1 favourite to land this title for the first time, with Northern Irishman Rory McIlroy next in the betting at 12/1 and Tommy Fleetwood a 16/1 chance.

After last year’s edition was temporarily moved to Torrey Pines because of wildfires, Riviera, one of the toughest courses on the US circuit, resumes normal hosting duties.

The Genesis Invitational Tips

  • Matt Fitzpatrick to win and each-way @ 33/1
  • Adam Scott to win and each-way @ 45/1
  • Tony Finau Top-20 Finish @ 14/5

Fitzpatrick to clinch Genesis title

Strong tee-to-green play has proved crucial to success at Riviera and one player who has thrived in that department this season is Matt Fitzpatrick, who ranks seventh in strokes gained in that category on the PGA Tour.

The 31-year-old enjoyed a strong finish to 2025, culminating in a third DP World Tour Championship, and his form at the beginning of the 2026 PGA Tour campaign suggests he is not far away from another success.

Fitzpatrick was ninth at the Phoenix Open and tied-14th at Pebble Beach on Sunday, with his approach play excellent in California as he ranked first in greens in regulation and was third in strokes gained approach.

The Englishman will be having his fifth crack at the Genesis Invitational – his best finish a top-five effort in 2021 – and he looks capable of putting in a strong challenge for his third PGA success.

Scott can land Riviera hat-trick

Adam Scott is a firm Riviera favourite and he is eyeing a third success in this tournament, following his play-off win in 2005 and his two-stroke triumph in 2020.

The 45-year-old Australian has also filled the runners-up spot twice at this venue, along with a top five and two top-10s, and it would be no surprise to see him get int contention once again.

Scott, who has recorded a couple of top-30 finishes in his last two starts, ranks 20th in strokes gained tee to green and he is striking the ball well enough to suggest he can win in San Diego again.

Finau can continue recovery in San Diego

Tony Finau’s trophy drought is coming up to three years – his most recent success was at the Mexico Open in April 2023 – but he has shown positive signs this year and can continue his progress.

After missed cuts in his first two outings of 2026, the American was tied-11th at the Farmers Insurance Open and after failing to make the weekend in Phoenix, he responded with an 18th-place finish at Pebble Beach.

Finau is getting back to the kind of form that had him ranked in the top 10 of the world back in 2021 and he should thrive on this trip to Riviera, where he was runner-up in 2018 and 2021.
