‘Submission of the year’ – MMA fighter scores one-of-a-kind finish while upside down
Featerweight Henrique Madureira pulled off one of the wildest submissions in MMA history last weekend at Oktagon 80.
Madureira’s inverted triangle choke finish over Eriglent Prizreni was so rare that some MMA fans have labelled it ‘Submission of the Year’.

Madureira faced Prizreni in Munich, Germany, on Saturday night as part of a stacked Oktagon card headlined by a lightweight title clash between Mateusz Legierski and Attila Korkmaz.
The 36-year-old from Brazil has been competing in professional MMA for over nine years now, but his win under the Oktagon MMA banner may only be the first time fans have picked up on his name.
How did Henrique Madureira pull off his wild submission at Oktagon 80?
Just 30 seconds into the Munich scrap, Prizreni shot for a takedown.
As Madureira attempted to scramble, the Brazilian ended up over the shoulders of his opponent, upside down in mid-air.
Madureira controlled the midsection of his opponent to avoid being slammed heavily into the canvas.
Then, as Prizreni walked towards the centre of the cage, Madureira spotted an opening.
‘Mad Max’ quickly switched his legs in an attempt to wrap up an inverted triangle choke.
Prizreni’s right arm was vulnerable, and it wasn’t long before Madureira locked in the submission.
The Albanian fighter sensed he was in danger and tried to urgently shake off his opponent.
However, Madureira’s grip tightened, and Prizreni was on the verge of passing out as he collapsed to the canvas.
Once he was down, it was all but over, and only seconds later, Prizreni, with his left arm trapped above his head, tapped out to the inverted triangle choke.
“I have never seen anything like that,” former UFC middleweight and Oktagon commentator Luke Barnatt said.
“That was impressive… this is a very complicated and hard submission to pull off.
“From any position, but let alone a standing inverted triangle.”
MMA fans were quick to agree with Barnatt after seeing the incredibly rare submission.
One responded to the finish on X and said: “That was crazy as hell.”

Another added: “Give this guy a medal already.”
A third wrote: “First time seeing this…crazy!”
While others labelled the finish ‘wild’ and ‘insane.’
Madureira moved to 9-7 in MMA with the win, while Prizreni tasted defeat for the first time in his career.
Elsewhere on the Munich card, Legierski outpointed Korkmaz in the main event to become the new Oktagon lightweight champion.
Christian Jungwirth stopped Niklas Stolze, and Ireland’s Denis Frimpong was knocked out by Gokhan Aksu.
