Stephen A. Smith rejected major WWE role offered by Nick Khan

A popular face on American television, Stephen A. Smith is known for his work as an NBA analyst for ESPN on SportsCenter, NBA Countdown, and the network’s NBA broadcasts. He once almost became a crucial part of WWE’s roster.

Former NFL punter Pat McAfee became an integral part of WWE, first through commentary and rare in-ring performances. McAfee currently finds himself a major part of the ongoing Randy Orton-Cody Rhodes storyline. As per Smith, he was also offered a similar role by WWE CEO Nick Khan.

Speaking on First Take, Stephen A. Smith revealed the opportunity he was offered and how he refused to take it. “I love it. I want to applaud Pat McAfee for that. I actually want to do that. Your man Nick Khan talked to me about that. The difference is, I’m not as courageous as Pat McAfee. I ain’t trying to get hit by one of them big boys, at all. I don’t want no parts of it, but I love that stuff because I think the sport needs it,” Smith said.

While rejecting the offer to become a WWE manager, Smith made sure to make his fandom for WWE’s legendary Bobby “The Brain” Heenan clear to the audience.

Despite Smith not being interested in accepting a WWE role, McAfee has now been inserted into the Orton-Rhodes feud. Days after being revealed as Orton’s mystery caller, McAfee also found himself in hot water as fans quickly made it clear they rejected the story. Both fans and WWE superstars have expressed their displeasure over McAfee’s addition. A recent report from Fightful Select also noted that there were currently no restrictions on talent to express their displeasure about the situation.
