Ace cricketer Ellyse Perry became the highest run-scorer for Australia Women in Test cricket on the second day of the one-off Test match between Australia and India at the WACA Stadium in Perth on Saturday.

Perry’s 76-run knock also saw her become the second player to cross 1000 career runs for the Aussies in the first innings of the Test match. Soon after, she went past former captain Karen Rolton’s tally of 1002 runs before being dismissed by off-spinner Deepti Sharma.

Perry got to her milestone with a single off the last ball of the 43rd over bowled by Sneh Rana, before a stepped-out loft over mid-off that went for four saw her cross Rolton’s record. She was dismissed by Deepti Sharma soon after, without adding more runs, trapped lbw after getting caught on the crease by a delivery which stayed low.

Australia finished their batting innings, being bowled out for 323, with a sizeable lead of 125 runs. Annabel Sutherland’s 129 was her third consecutive century in the multi-day format and her fourth in a career of five Tests. She was supported ably by Perry, with their partnership of 128 runs being the backbone of the Australian innings.

India were bowled out for 198 in their first innings despite a valiant 52 from Jemimah Rodrigues. Sutherland, along with her batting heroics, also picked up four wickets. Debutant Lucy Hamilton picked up three wickets, with Dracie Brown picking up two and Ashleigh Gardener getting one, respectively.

Perry has represented Australia Women 15 times in Test cricket, with her 1,002 runs coming at an impressive average of 59.17. She has two centuries to her name, with a highest score of 213* against England, the third highest individual score in the format. The star all-rounder also has 39 wickets at an excellent average of 21.82, with her best figures of 6/32 also coming against the English side.

The Aussies find themselves in a commanding position at the end of the second day's play, with India at 105/6, still trailing by 20 runs in the second innings. Pratika Rawal remains unbeaten on 43, with Sneh Rana alongside her on 14. Lucy Hamilton added three more wickets to what has been a brilliant debut, taking her match tally to six wickets, with Sutherland picking up two more and another one for Brown.
