After head coach Mitch Johnson and the San Antonio Spurs lost to Jalen Brunson and the New York Knicks in Game 5 of the NBA Finals, he revealed one regret. Knicks’ Brunson scored 45 points in the series clincher sealing his franchise’s first title in 53 years, as New York defeated the Spurs, 94-90, on Saturday.
After the game, Johnson offered a blunt response when a reporter asked the one regret he had in defending Brunson in his series-ending loss in Game 5, per SNY Knicks’ Twitter, formerly Twitter.

Knicks All-Star Jalen Brunson finished 14-for-27 from the floor, including 4-for-7 from deep, and 13-for-15 from the free-throw line. He also added three rebounds, three assists, and two steals in leading his team to a title as the 2026 Finals MVP.

Spurs head coach Mitch Johnson responded to Victor Wembanyama’s Game 5 performance against the Knicks in a heart-breaking fashion after watching their season end in a championship loss. For Johnson, Wembanyama’s expotential growth will be how he’ll remember the Spurs’ 2026-27 season he said, per SNY Knicks’ Twitter, formerly Twitter.
“I think it’s grown tremendously,” Johnson revealed. “I think he’s stepped into every moment with the appropriate amount of fearlessness and also respect for the moment and being exactly who he is. And he’s bringing his teammates and everybody else along with him. It’s been pretty fun to observe and be a part of.”

Wembanyama finished with 19 points on 7-for-9 shooting, including one three, and 4-for-5 from the free-throw line. He also finished with 14 rebounds, five blocks, and two assists against the Knicks in Game 5.
